A sudden rise or drop in blood pressure can have a dramatic effect.  In the past, doctors didn’t think it was that big of a deal, but what as experts learn more about blood pressure, it’s these drops and rises actually are more linked to stroke than other things.  So, it’s very important that we don’t just ignore a sudden rise or a drop.  There was a tendency in the past to do that, just to say, “Oh well, pressure’s up a little this month,” or “pressure’s down.”  The truth of the matter is this is not something you can ignore.  It’s something that you really need to look at.

Optimism Linked to Health Benefits

Optimism Linked to Health Benefits

Previously published reports suggest that positive psychological factors such as optimism are associated with health benefits such as low risk of heart disease and cardiovascular-related death. Authors of this study analyzed data from the Health and Retirement Study. They did it in over 6,000 adults, all older than 50, and they compared the response. They found that optimistic folks simply have less stress which is linked to less cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke.

It’s The “Silent Killer” And You Need To Control It

It’s The “Silent Killer” And You Need To Control It

You know high blood pressure can affect women just as well as it affects men. If you have high blood pressure, doctors need to control it; they don’t always treat it; they don’t always cure it. That’s because the long-term effects of high blood pressure are the things that cause damage. If high blood pressure is uncontrolled, you increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. You also can weaken part of the heart muscle. And if your pressure continues to rise and gets too high, doctors have to deal with that quickly. That’s why it’s so important to take your prescribed medication!

Childhood Obesity and Health Risks

Childhood Obesity and Health Risks

Obesity is a major issue in this country, and in particular, in children. Childhood obesity is huge because we have to worry about the fact that it could increase the risk of a child getting diabetes as well as other health problems. Some of those other health problems we have to be concerned about are heart disease and stroke down the road. All of these things occur at a more rapid rate when children are overweight. If children exercise and if they have an opportunity to eat appropriately, in proper time they’ll do much better.
