Psychological Aspect of Anorexia

Psychological Aspect of Anorexia

Anorexia is a serious medical problem, but it’s a medical problem with a psychological overlie. People who have anorexia actually have a distorted body image. They feel that there is something wrong with them. That they weigh too much. As a result, they eat far less and can get into big trouble. Even when they are losing weight, they continue to think they weigh too much, and that’s part of the problem with anorexia. People who have anorexia nervosa have to have the psychological issues dealt with as well as the weight issues.

A major point to understand about eating disorders is that they are psychological problems. They’re not necessarily all about weight. There is a distorted body image that takes control and it can affect behavior, but the important thing to realize here is that each case is individual and we need to get help, sometimes at the psychiatric level.

Realities of the Freshman 15

Realities of the Freshman 15

It is called the freshman 15 and as the school year approaches and girls are considering going to college, it is a very realistic prospect. There are several things happening here. First, for many kids it is a time to be away from home, to eat on your own. Secondly, there’s usually a food card of some sort, a voucher which allows you to eat unlimited food. Finally, institutional food with gravy often is a cheaper type of food to provide than healthy foods. The combination can be deadly and includes a lot of weight gain, including that freshman 15.
