Allergy to Infant Formula

Bab-Bottle

When you look at formula for babies, you have to understand that certain formulas for babies can cause difficulties.  Usually, though, what doctors do if someone is allergic is physicians actually look at a soy formula because soy formula is one of the ones that is the easiest to tolerate.  Doctors often say that if children are having problems beyond the soy formula, then they need to get it checked out and evaluated by the pediatrician.  What you don’t want to have a child do is have severe diarrhea which is uncontrolled.

Girls, Sports, and Knee Injuries

A lot of girls are playing sports and that’s a great thing, but one of the problems with the extra sports is the fact that there is an increase in knee injuries.  Women have more lax ligaments.  That’s because during the entire process of delivering babies it’s essential to be able to spread the hips, to relax, and to have a child go through the birth canal.  The same thing that helps in delivering babies is problematic when it comes to injuries, especially in the knee, because those ligaments, like the anterior cruciate ligament, they’re more likely to stretch and to tear.

When Do Babies Develop Teeth?

When Do Babies Develop Teeth?

A lot of parents are concerned about when their children will get their first teeth. Really, it does vary, but systematically across the board, it’s usually the first tooth at six months and another tooth every month thereafter. It’s important that parents not put pressure on themselves as they watch for their baby’s development. Most children, if not all, about 99.99%, develop teeth and their teeth grow, and they grow fine. So you don’t want to be over that stressful barrel where you’re telling yourself that it’s not going to happen, because it will.

Preterm Delivery May Be Linked to Depression

Preterm Delivery May Be Linked to Depression

A study of approximately 800 pregnant women found that their risk of preterm delivery was higher if they were depressed and it increased with the severity of their depressive symptoms. Women with severe depression had more than twice the risk of delivering their babies preterm compared to their non-depressed peers. Ninety-eight percent of women were not taking antidepressants. Preterm delivery was defined as less than 36 weeks gestation. It’s the leading cause of infant mortality and morbidity. The women’s mental status was determined in points ten weeks into their pregnancy.

Music May Help Premature Babies

Music May Help Premature Babies

Playing music for premature babies may lessen their pain and improve their feeding habits according to researchers in the Archives of Diseases in Childhood. It’s a Canadian study. They analyzed nine other studies on music for babies and found there was evidence that babies had less pain during needle sticks or circumcision when they listened to music during the procedure. There is also some evidence that music could improve babies’ oral feeding. However, the authors say the studies are mostly preliminary and they need to be confirmed through further research. We like these studies on music because what they show is that you can actually be affected by your environment and things like music can make a big difference.
